Tracker Central Overview
Tracker Central is a combination test case and bug tracking system for use in all
phases of the software development, testing, implementation, and support process.
Tracker Central provides an organized and flexible framework for testing software
applications as well as providing a component to gather any resulting 'bugs' that may be
flushed out during the completion of the test cases. Other uses of the
system include the tracking of new feature requests, the
reporting of data setup issues for system conversions, and Year 2000 readiness testing,
just to name a few.
Tracker Central Highlights
User-Definable Tables
For both the test case and bug components of Tracker Central, user
definable tables allow for the custom creation and categorization of data without the need
for costly and lengthy programming changes. For example, users can define products
and product sub-categories, bug urgency types, as well as test case status levels just to
name a few. Dependant upon the needs of each particular project, the user has the
ability to edit the contents of the dropdown selection boxes throughout the entire
application.
Linking
Every bug or observation that is entered into Tracker Central can be linked to one
or more discovering test cases. For example, if a bug or a suggestion surfaces
during the execution of a particular test case, the user can immediately create a new
record and link that bug to the test case that produced it. There is a tab
for every bug and test case within Tracker Central that lists the corresponding links.
Tracking
Users can track the status of bugs and test cases based upon a number of
different selection criteria. For example, a user can query to either the screen or
a report all outstanding bugs with a high urgency level for an application that has been
assigned to them within the last week. For every bug, Tracker Central has an
informational 'History' tab detailing all of the status changes from submission to
confirmation that the bug has been properly fixed.
Reporting
A collection of standard on-line and/or hardcopy reports are available
based upon a wide variety of user-definable selection criteria. In addition, Tracker
Central allows users to integrate a third party reporting tool into the system for the
purposes of creating additional ad-hoc queries and reports. This includes, but is not
limited to, PowerBuilder, InfoMaker, and Crystal Reports.
Technology
Tracker Central is a client/server application. The GUI portion of the
application was created using PowerBuilder. Windows 95/98 and NT GUI clients are
supported. The server portion of the application is a Sybase SQL Server database running
on any of the Sybase supported platforms.
